Hard water? Where does it come from?

When we are speaking about soft water we are usually thinking about the spring warm rain that touches gently our skin. It's pure water-with no minerals. On the other side when we are speaking about hard water we have in mind the one in which there is a high level of calcium and magnesium. If water has those minerals it's not that pure anymore, the touch of it isn't gentle. It's probably the best way to imagine the difference between them.

And why soft water becomes hard?

Before water gets into our houses it has to take a long trip. During this trip it's changing from rain into rivers and streams. When it sleeps
trough the ground it is slightly possible that it picks up minerals from the rocks like limestone, chalk. And that's why a lot of us has that kind of water in home.

Is the hard water unhealthy?

It might be unhealthy for people who has kidney problems. But it causes the most damages in our kitchens, bathrooms and toilets. The mentioned minerals, during the heating process, form a visible scale in pipes, kettles and dishwashers. As a result, the scale is clogging the pipes and the efficiency of heat that it is needed to make water hot is increasing, therefore it can bring much higher bills. And shorten a lot the life of all appliances at home. It can also damage hair and leave skin feeling dried out and itchy.

Is there something like hard water treatment?

Yes, the hard water can be softenedFree Articles, usually by using water softners that are passing over an ion exchange resin and works by replacing the calcium and magnesium in the water with sodium.

Before buying such device you should have a good thinking. A softener will improve the efficiency and increase the life of appliances using hot water. Some people with skin conditions have fewer problems when using soft water for washing. But the way they work might cause a different healthy problems. Too big amount of sodium might be dangerous for premature babies and people on low salt diet. Healthy alternative for that might be an electroniclimescale removal which isn't using any sodium but a powerful high audio frequency signals that are designed to effectively treat water conditions and flow rate.

How to Give a Speech without Notes

For many people giving a speech causes them to turn tail and run or break out in a cold sweat. They would rather die than walk up to a podium and talk. This phenomenon is actually documented. When people are asked what their number one fear is, an astounding majority say speaking before groups. Death comes in second.

So, why in the world would anyone want to give a speech without notes? After all aren't our notes there to help guide us through the speech? Aren't they there to keep us from forgetting what we intended to say? Aren't they there to prevent that ever-fearful event: our minds going blank?

My answer to these questions is a resounding no! When you depend too much on your notes you are putting your brain on cruise control. As the pilot of your speech, imagine if your notes suddenly flew across the room and all your papers scattered into the wind. What would you do? Pilots depend on their co-pilot to take over. You don't have a co-pilot. You must depend on your brain.

The purpose of this paper is to give you some tips to train your brain to work for you. The goal is to free yourself from dependency on your notes. When the wind blows and your notes fly away (or your computer crashes the night before your presentation), do not panic. Instead, toss your head back with confidence and say, "It's ok. I can deliver this speech blindfolded."

How Do You Do It? How Do You Train Your Brain and Rid Yourself of Those Pesky Notes?

First of all, you don't have to be completely note-free. You can take your notes to the podium as you usually do. You can place them on the table before you as always. What will be different this time is that you will never look at them! You have them there, just in case. But as your confidence grows with working without notes, you will suddenly notice, you don't need them anymore. I have reached a point where my notes have been dwindled down to a single note-card (and this is for a 30 minute presentation), which I place in the pocket of my jacket. I never pull it out.

How do you think the great musicians play without music? How do they reach a point in their careers when they can perform a 10 to 12 page piece without a single sheet of music in front of them? You know the answer to this question. Practice! Practice! Practice!

Preparing for your presentation requires diligent and planned practice. I heard someone say once, "If you aren't prepared, you ought to be scared." Yes, practice will make perfect and practice will enable you to toss your notes to the wind.

Believe it or not there are some people who are so frightened by speaking they do not want to think about it. They postpone working on their speech or presentation because the thought of it terrifies them. These people shun practice out of fear and thereby assure themselves that their worst fear comes true. If you are not willing, or unable to practice, you had better not walk up to that podium. Your notes will not help you. Nothing will.

How Do You Practice?

*Decide what you are going to say and write it out. Write down everything, even your jokes, antidotes and examples.

*Read aloud what you have written. Re-write and re-write to make the speech conversational. Re-write to make sure the speech fits in the time allotted. Add and remove portions.

*Now that you have your speech written exactly as you want it, read it aloud five times in a row. After each reading, lift your eyes from the page between paragraphs. Before you look down, try and think about what comes next, paragraph by paragraph (or section by section).

*By the fifth reading you are ready to take your speech off the written page and put it on note cards. You will put words or sentences on the note cards that will transition you to the next part. These are the stumbling places you noted while you were reading.

Example

You are reading: "My biggest fear in making presentations is that I will lose my place and forget what I am about to say. One of the tricks I use to make sure I will remember is. . ."

Oops you forgot what comes next. You look down on your notes and see "to prepare a PowerPoint slide."

You will write PowerPoint on your note card.

*Now that you have your speech on your note cards in bullets, practice your speech with your cards 5 times over two days. This time you don't want to practice too many times in a row. You want your brain to expand. This practice process isn't just about memorization. It's about putting your brain to work--teaching it to expand with you. Notice after each practice how often you have to look down on your cards. Notice if you add some content or a new story. If so, jot those things down on your cards, rework your cards and start over.

*After the fifth practice, you are now ready to abandon the note cards. Practice your speech in the shower. Practice while walking your dog. Practice while driving your car. Practice your speech at least 10 times in places where notes are impossible. Pay attention to the spots where you stumble or forget what is next. For example, if you are practicing in the shower and you are mid-way through your speech and can't quite remember the next part, that is perfectly fine. As soon as you come out of the shower, go find your notes. When you see what jogs your memory, you are off and running again. The next time, in the shower or in the car, you will remember that part and go on. I suggest at least 10 practices before your presentation. But once you are giving your speech with ease and your notes are clearly in your head, you are ready (even if you only practiced like this 4 or 5 times).

If you prepare and practice and leave your notes on the podium or in your pocket, you will discover that speech making is actually fun. Your brain loves the exercise and you will know that no matter what happens to that little note card, you will successfully deliver your speech. Nothing will stop you now!

Imagine how impressed your audience will be! How did she do it and without notes? Only your dog knows your secret!

Building Outdoor Kitchens

Building outdoor kitchens is all the rage and if you haven't already built one, I'm sure you're cooking up an outdoor kitchen plan for your home. And why not upgrade your backyard to be the hot spot on the block for entertaining and relaxing...

Outdoor kitchens increase your living space adding tremendous value and appeal to your home. That's why building outdoor kitchens is the second most popular remodeling project after indoor kitchens.

However, a great outdoor kitchen is a complex project.

You can certainly enjoy your backyard and grill up some tasty BBQ on any charcoal or gas grill, but to truly bring your kitchen outdoors requires significant planning, skill and expertise. This project is not a do-it-yourselfer.

Here's what you'll need to consider:

Your basic outdoor kitchen set-up will include a built-in barbeque grill, countertop, sink, refrigerator, outdoor kitchen cabinets and cozy outdoor furniture or barstools for yourself and all your guests to kick back.

The barbeque grills on the market today offer so many bells and whistles that you should start shopping around early to determine your favorite options and how much you want to spend.

Next, the type of countertop surface is a crucial decision when building outdoor kitchens. Options include tile, quartz, solid surface, granite and other natural stones. Choosing the right countertop will ensure years of enjoyment and admiration. The wrong one...years of hassle and headaches.

If price is a primary consideration then take a look at tile. Just know that a tile countertop may not stand up as well to the elements and will require significant maintenance to keep the grout clean and the tiles intact.

Granite and quartz are more expensive, but offer the best long-term value with excellent durability and superior styling.

For the ultimate in luxury, you may also consider installing pergolas, stereos, ceiling fans, fire pits and more. Even TVs are moving outside.

Comfort & Flow

Comfort is key to enjoying your outdoor kitchen and entertainment space. But before you empty your wallet on that imported teak dining set with bar stools, take a look at the space you have available and decide how it's going to "flow."

Everyone needs a little space so, make sure your outdoor kitchen plan accounts for some basic and standard construction measurements to allow plenty of room to sit and move about.

Outdoor Kitchen Location

Of course, the idea of an outdoor kitchen is to relieve you of all the shuttling back and forth from your kitchen inside. Nonetheless, you'll want to locate your outdoor kitchen as close as possible to the indoor one for overall convenience.

Also, when building outdoor kitchens keep in mind things like, electricity, water and gas. The closer your outdoor kitchen is to your house the easier it will be to hook up to these utilities.

Sun and rain exposure is an important consideration. Certainly you'll want some protection from the rain so grilling can continue even if the party must move indoors.

In northern areas you may want to maximize sun exposure, while most southern backyard kitchens should be designed to shield the sun either by location or the addition of a pergola or large umbrella.

Wind protection is another reason to stay close to the house. You don't want to be so close that smoke from the grill is easily blown around seating areas, but taking advantage of walls and fences will make grilling more pleasant. However, fencing, trees, shrubs and planters can be added for greater protection.

Utilities & Permits

If you're not building a new home that includes an outdoor kitchen, chances are your outdoor kitchen plan will require installation of water, electric and possibly gas supply to your cooking area.

Water supply to the sink will need to be installed so it can drain in winter to prevent freeze damage and building codes will probably require the sink drain be connected to the main house drain.

You'll need to hire an electrician to install GFCI outlets above the countertop and for your lighting. If your outdoor kitchen plan calls for cooking with natural gas vs. propane then you'll need a plumber to run an underground gas line.

Permits will be required so everything should be mapped out in advance. And although some aspects of building outdoor kitchens can be handled by the competent do-it-yourselfer, the complete project involves extensive and specialized installations that are best left to professionals.

You'll have many discussions with your contractor about all of these items, but this should get the juices flowing on your great outdoor kitchen plan.

Why Choose Art Prints?

Art prints are the latest way to add style and charm to your home or apartment. You can choose from the latest artists or hang up some of the founders of modern art. While many people scoff at the idea of art prints, there is a lot to be said for these paper replications of the 'real' things. And here's why you just may want to change your mind too.

When you find art prints in a store or online, the first thing you will notice is how cheap they are in comparison to real paintings or prints. Because they're merely copies of the real pieces of art, they can be sold at much lower prices. They are also produced in larger quantities, further reducing the price and making them affordable for anyone. While a cheap price isn't always a necessity when you're buying art, these prints do allow you to have more art hanging in your home than you might if you were paying full price.

The many varieties of art that you can find in art prints also offer you more flexibility. You can choose a modern art piece for the living room, but then try an impressionistic work in the bedroom. No matter what your tastes are, you can find an art print that will suit you. There are hundreds of possibilities in terms of images, colors, and styles - all ready for you to hang on your wall and change as your needs or tastes change.

Easy to mat and frame yourself, art prints offer the homeowner or apartment renter the ability to hang their own art in their home. And by choosing a particular mat color, you can emphasize one color in the piece or simply draw attention to the piece in a particular room. You might also want to have the print matted professionally, but it's often much cheaper if you do so yourself. These prints allow you to 'do it yourself' when it comes to adding art to your home space.

With the large quantities that are available in art prints, you can get multiple copies of the same print, if you like. This can create an interesting effect in a single room or allow for you to have a repeating theme in a number of rooms. You can also easily give these prints as presents to family members or to a child that's moved out in order for them to remember a piece of home. If something should happen to your print, you don't have to worry about not being able to replace it as most art prints can be reordered without any problem.

When you purchase art prints, you're not being cheap or ruining the vision of the artist. While it's true that you're not getting the exact work of the artist, you are celebrating their work. Prints allow everyone to own a piece of fine art, without being worried about insurance costs or if it should fall down. Art is meant to be accessible to everyone and art prints ensure that this accessibility occurs.

WHERE CAN I PUBLISH MY BOOK? (PART 2)

By

Arthur Zulu

Let’s illustrate this point further. Do you know Jerzy Kosinski’s THE THIRTY – NINE STEPS? Yes, one writer had that best – seller typed, and submitted, as a manuscript by a new writer, and waited for an answer. And what reply did he get? All the trade publishers rejected it. All the agents told him, “no way’". And to worst the experiment, Random House which originally published the book, threw it out as an insignificant book. Yet, this was a National Book Award Winner.

Even, some other best- sellers were “randomly" rejected. Like THE JUNGLE by Upton Sinclair. Like Thomas Paine’s COMMON SENSE. Like MAGNIFICENT OBSESSION by Lloyd C. Douglas. Do you now understand what I mean when I say you should not go to them? But you have another chance.

Subsidy Publishers
Also known as private or commission publishers, subsidy
publishers are a better choice; if you can pay to get your book published. And they pay higher commission or royalties, than the trade publishers. They include Vantage Press, Minerva Press and Avon Books.

Now, paying for book publication has a long history. Many great writers started that way. Edward Fitzgerald financed the publication of his monumental work, THE RUBAIYAT OF OMAR KHAYYAM. Thomas Gray paid to publish his classic, ELEGY. And what about Edgar Allan Poe? He sponsored the printing of the book of all times, TAMERLANE AND OTHER POEMS. And Leo Tolstoy doled out money to pay for the publication of the best novel on earth, WAR AND PEACE.

The list has not ended. What about Thomas Hardy, Alexander Pope, T.S.Eliot, Alfred Lord Tennyson and many others? They did likewise. Why not submit your book to one of these subsidy publishers now?

But suppose they don’t appeal to you. You have another choice.

Self Publishing
Yes, you may decide to do it yourself. Print and publish your work. Go round, promote and distribute your book. Become your own manager, accountant and clerk. And more!

Then ask yourself: How far can I go? Do I have the time? Do I have the experience? Can I bear the health and physical risks?

Well, it is up to you to decide. And remember what Hippocrates said: "Ars Longa: Vita brevis -– Arts is long, but life is short".

If none of the above appeals to you, you are not to tuck away your precious manuscript in the attic. And go bungee jumping! Life after all, “is not a roller coaster" someone says. So, why not try the exciting world of Internet Publishing.

Party Planning Ideas

So you've decided to have a little party. Congratulations!!! You'll have fun and it won't be as hard as you're probably thinking right now. What's your plan? Inviting a few friends over for an evening of conversation? A 30th birthday party for your spouse? A victory celebration after finally paying off that mortgage that you thought would never go away?

It doesn't matter. Any reason is a good reason to have a good time. Whether it's a catered affair or you do it all yourself, the object of the event is enjoyment, so why not enjoy getting ready for it also?

Remember, any event can be broken down into 3 easy steps:

- Preparation
- Presentation
- Produlation

What's 'produlation' you ask? That's the best part!!! It's when you produce the results of your preparation and presentation and receive the congratulations of your guests (and yourself, of course).

Preparation

One of the keys to a successful gathering is preparation. And the earlier it starts, the better. We think it is important for a couple of reasons.

First of all, it is a way to get organized. But more importantly, if time is spent in the preparation phase, you won't be running around at the last minute attending to details. This will better allow you to relax and enjoy your time with your guests.

We've divided the preparation phase into three easy categories:
- Menu
- Layout
- Cleaning

If you've follow the above steps, you should be able to get a good night's sleep and relax while waiting for your event to begin!

Menu

Welcome to the most exciting section on the preparation for your party. Sure, as you look at the different options under preparation you see that terrible choice called 'cleaning'. But let's not think about that right now. Instead, why don't we just have some fun and let our imaginations run wild.

The first decision you will need to make is whether you will be doing your own food preparation or using the services of a caterer. There is no right answer. We will tell you that once they were organized, many people have actually admitted that they enjoyed preparing the food. If that is your desire, read on. If you decide to follow the caterer route, it might still be a good idea to read the rest of this section to help prepare for the questions they will be asking you in order to help make your event memorable.

The two most important words that come to mind when preparing your menu are variety and quantity.

It's a good idea to provide your guests with a wide variety of choices. Some hot, some cold. Some dry, some with sauces. Add a few meats, vegetables, cheeses a couple of dips and maybe even
some fruit and voila, you have a menu. Do you have a special finger food that is a little bit out of the ordinary? Add it to your menu. It's always a good idea to have a few old stand-bys
such as chicken wings and chips for those with a less exotic palate. A typical menu we've seen included: wings with a variety of sauces (although they were just as good plain), pepperoni
bread with a little spaghetti sauce on the side for dipping if desired, a variety of potato and tortilla chips with a couple of dip choices a vegetable tray and a selection of olives and pickles.

Another idea to consider is having a few items on your menu that can be prepared in advance and reheated so that you are not rushing to prepare the food when you would rather be relaxing and thinking of the fun you will be having.

After covering the variety of choices, it is now time to look at quantity. Always prepare more than you think you'll need. It may seem like a waste of money at first, but remember, you get to eat the leftovers. Or, as the host, you will be able to offer your guests a little going home gift.

Now settle in and let your imagination run wild.

Layout

Layout is an often overlooked part of the preparation. At many events there is a last minute rush to try and squeeze everything in and a considerable amount of time is spent rearranging things to ensure that both your guests and the food will all fit in the desired area.

Of course, there are many factors which need to be considered when planning your layout. Such things as location (indoor or outdoor) and the amount of space you have. We've been to some events in 3000 square foot houses and others in 1000 square foot houses. Certainly the ones in larger areas made things easier, but even the smaller areas were successful because the host had taken the time to plan his layout.

If at all possible, it is best to create three separate areas to help provide a free flow of guests and help eliminate traffic jams. One area will feature the food. Another will contain your drinks and drinkware. The third area will be used for plates, napkins, utensils and items of that sort.

Without a doubt, the food area will be the most popular, so here are a few tips to help in that area. The first thing to consider is the option of setting the food on a table that will allow people to walk completely around it. The idea of setting plates, etc. in a separate area will allow people to pick up a plate and proceed to an open area of the food table in order to begin serving themselves. With the plates at one end of the food table, everyone feels obliged to walk around the whole table, even if the food the desire is at the very end.

Now in setting up the food itself, there are a couple of things to consider. It is best to put what you believe will be the most popular food in the center of the table. This will allow your guests to have easy access from anywhere. Also, it is always a good idea to place any sauces near the edge of the table. This will prevent accidental spills into other foods which may make them unpleasing to your guests.

Now close your eyes and start dreaming of the wonderful layout you have designed for your guests.

Cleaning

As the saying goes, "cleanliness is next to godliness". Unfortunately, cleaning is probably the least
glamorous task at hand. However, it is also one of the most important because it leads to the next major
area, presentation.

It is best to do as much of the major cleaning as possible on the day before the special event. This will
help prevent wearing yourself out on the appointed day or cleaning too early and finding it necessary to
reclean. We've included a handy check list and some pointers that we've learned from experience.

This is all going to sound like pretty common sense information, but while being in the middle of
preparation, it is sometimes easy to overlook even the most basic elements.

Checklist:

Kitchen:

_____ Clear off as much as possible from coutertops. This will help the area to look neat and uncluttered.
It is expected to see certain things on a counter top such as a coffee maker, canister set or a
cookie jar. But the 3 cans of soup you bought last week should be put in their proper place.

_____ Clean all dirty dishes. Nothing says unprepared like walking into a kitchen with a sink full of dirty dishes.

_____ Once the dishes have been cleaned, store them properly.

_____ Have a trash can available in the vicinity of the serving area if this is not a formal dinner. Always be sure to use a clean trash bag. If necessary, take a half full bag and store it out of the way until the event is over.

Bathroom:

_____ Clean the toilet (including the top of the tank) and the sink.

_____ Again, clear off as much as possible from coutertops.

_____ Do you have a large family? Are there various towels and washcloths hanging around? Put them all in a clothes hamper. It looks so much neater that way.

_____ Place clean towels in a area where it is convenient for your guests to dry their hands.

_____ If you have one of those liquid soap dispensers, ensure that it is atleast half full. Totally filled is best.

_____ Place a spare roll or two of toilet paper where they can easily be seen. A small basket holding these can add to the overall appearance.

_____ It looks best if the shower curtain is drawn shut. This will also hide any clutter from shampoo bottles, etc. If there are doors on the shower, shut them.

Serving/Eating Area:

_____ Clean all corners and baseboards. These areas tend to be neglected during routine cleaning.

_____ Dust any horizontal surfaces. This is another area that can be overlooked from time to time.

_____ If you are using a room that will feature a view of the outdoors, take time to thoroughly clean any windows.

And you're done! Now that wasn't so bad after all.

Presentation

Congratulations!!! You've made it through the most difficult section, preparation and moved on to presentation. This is the area that is featured by most people, but we believe good preparation leads to good presentation.

While it is important to consider the layout and presentation of the food serving area, we feel that some time should be taken to consider the overall appearance of your event area with the food starting out as the focal point. As you are undoubtedly aware, the serving area will become unkempt, therefore, it is a good idea to include the entire event area when working on presentation.

One point to consider is the style of the serving dishes. Once again, this will be somewhat dictated by the location of your event. There are those who prefer the clear or colored glass type of serving dishes. Others prefer a ceramic dish. The choice is yours. Since this is a special event, we suggest refraining from the use of cheap plastic serving dishes if at all possible. Many people have told us they've picked up quite a collection over time discount stores. Some have even told us of finds they've made at dollar stores.

The next thing you might want to think about is the use of a center piece. While there is nothing wrong with this, we are of the belief that the food itself is the center piece.

Now that your guests have enjoyed the food that you have prepared, it is time for them to relax, mingle and talk with each other. A nice idea that we've seen to help promote conversation during the quiet periods is to place a few photo albums in an area where your guests can browse them. This is especially helpful if you have a group of people that tends to spend a lot of time together. As they flip through the pages they will recall bygone days that you've spent together. If you have children, maybe an album of kids photos as they were growing up. This may spark memories of their own children or even their childhood which can lead to some pretty interesting conversations.

Another idea we've been made aware of is setting out a conversation starter book. An example we've seen is a book that asks questions about Christmas. There were questions such as 'what was your favorite Christmas gift.'

Remember, even though you may be dealing with adults, they're still children at heart.

Produation

You may be asking yourself, as many before you have, "what is produlation?" It is the euphoric feeling you
get when you PRODuce a premier event and receive the congratULATIONS of all who attend. You've done such a
fine job you can even congratulate yourself.

You've put all of the hard work behind you. As you were preparing, I'm sure there were times when you were
asking yourself if it was worth it. Now you know it was, so ENJOY yourself!!!

One last thing, which will help the produlation continue. If you read the menu sectionFree Web Content, the produlation will
continue as you pull out some of the food you've held back and restock your party feast.

Choosing the right car

We all dream about the car we’d like, Maybe we see one in the street and think “that’s the one for me" then, being fickle, will see another a little further along the street and say “No, that’s the car I want!".

Don’t worry, this is quite normal, very few people know exactly what they want.

Here, we give you some considerations on choosing the right car for you so you don’t end up saddled with a car that, frankly, disappoints you! Remember that you are likely to spend a lot of your time sitting in it and the model you choose will say a lot about you to other people.

What will be your new car’s main purpose?
Your lifestyle and what your new car will be used for is the very first thing you need to think about. Basically, your dream car may be TT Roadster (a two-seater) bit if the car is to be used to drop the kids off to school, then it really won’t be suitable!

Consider this ….
• Is the car going to be used for family trips?
• commuting to work in? (then choose a diesel to get the most from your fuel)
• will it be a sporty second car for week-ends?
• Does it need to used for off-roading?
• Will it be needed for business?
• Are you married or single? Do you have children? etc etc

This will then help you build a picture in mind of the car that is realistically right for you

The costs
Another important consideration is running costs:

• What insurance group is the car? The higher the group, the more your insurance premium will be
• If your car is going to do a lot of mileage (over 12,000 miles a year), then think about choosing a car with a diesel engine – these are better on fuel consumption
• More expensive cars will have higher servicing and maintenance bills

Comfort
Depending on what purpose your car is used for, comfort is a consideration.

For commuting or high mileage vehicles, the car should be of the optimum comfort and, ideally, have air conditioning.

If it is a fun car, say a sporty number for weekends, then be prepared that the ride will be slightly harder (but a lot of fun!)

Featured Merchant
By now you should have a good idea of the type of car you want and what it needs to be like to suit your circumstances!

Now, think about how much you can comfortably afford and start doing your research!

The internet is a good place to start looking, you can research prices, specifications and, if you are after a new car, for a bit of fun, you can even visit a manufacturers site and build a car to your own specifications!

Also, scour the motor section of your local newspaper to see what finance deals and offers are on at local dealerships. You could pick up a good deal!

Happy Motoring!

A Little About Backpacking

Backpacking is a fun hobby and sport. It is challenging and adventurous. It appeals to young and old, male and female. It is something anyone can do and there are countless options on how and where to do it. Backpacking is a great way to get exercise and have fun at the same time. Read on to learn more about what backpacking is all about.

Backpacking is the combination of hiking and camping. Backpacking trips involve hiking through wilderness areas and camping overnight. A backpacker carries everything they need on their back. A backpacking trip can last one night or multiple nights. The longer the trip, the more that must be packed and carried, so the planning for both packing and the trip is essential. Some areas that are very popular backpacking destinations will have camp sites set up. They may simply have a fire ring and posted maps or they can have cabins. Other areas may have nothing at all and backpackers set up their camp wherever they find a good spot.

There is a community in backpacking. Everyone works together to preserve the wilderness that they love. There are certain accepted and unaccepted behaviors in backpacking. Backpackers try not to disturb or damage the area they travel in. They clean up all traces of their camp and never litter or take anything along their travels.

Backpacking requires a person to always keep safety in mind. There are many hazards in backpacking and a person who does not think about being safe is sure to fall prey. The backpack itself can pose problems if a person does not learn how to fit it and pack it properly. The physical activity can be strenuous and a person must be conditioned to handle walking through uneven and rough terrain. First aid and general wilderness safety is another thing a backpacker must know. It is easy to get lost and hurt in the wilderness, so every backpacker must have a good handle on staying safe.

People backpack for different reasons. Some do it for the excellent exercise. Some people like backpacking because of the adventure and love of nature. Others backpack as a way to learn and explore the outdoors. Whatever reason people backpack, there are large numbers of them and they continue to explore, love and walk through the wilderness with the common goal of a good backpacking experience.

Car Buying Scams

The first money wasting scam deals with etching the vehicle’s VIN# on the window. In some cases a dealership will try to make you pay for this added feature. Please don’t fall for this trick. No lender will require you to pay for any extra options that you don’t require. To be honest all they really care about is whether or not your payments are on time.

Be on the look out for the phrase “subject to loan approval". Almost every car loan will have this phrase in it and trust me when I say that some dealerships will try and exploit you out of more money using this phrase as the reason why. This scam is usually pulled on consumers that may have bad credit so if your credit score is good you shouldn’t have to worry about being taken advantage of by the dealership. The bad news is for those that are taken advantage of it usually means upwards of $1000 more in finance fees and an additional $50 a month added to your car payment. One way to avoid this scam is to finance the car through your own bank or credit union.

The most abused scam is the credit score scam. This is where the car dealership tells you that your credit score is lower then what it actually is in order to charge you a higher finance rate on your car loan. No one is immune to this scam because the dealership doesn’t care if you have good or bad credit when they attempt to con you. The best way to deal with this greediness is to bring a copy of your credit score with you when you go looking to buy a new car. That way there is no confusion as to what your credit score truly is.

Another favorite scam is the forced warranty scam where the auto dealership will insist that in order to qualify for the car loan you will need to purchase a $2000 2 or 3 year warranty. The bottom line upfront is that it’s hogwash and you don’t need the warranty.

Here’s a good scam that I’m sure you’ve seen often. It’s called the dealer prep scam. Yes that’s right I’m talking about that extra $500 that seems to appear on your contract to compensate the dealer for basically doing nothing since the car arrives in the dealership ready to be driven off the car lot to a prospective buyer. Try an avoid paying this if you can otherwise find a dealer that will knock this ridiculous charge off of the contract.

The dealer markup fee is another phony fee that is made up just to pad the car dealership’s profit margin. This is an unnecessary fee that the dealer charges for no reason other than greed. This fee can be seen on the orange sticker marked on the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP).

These are just a few of the many scams that can surface from time to time when you are attempting to buy a new car. Although these practices to go on there are many trustworthy car dealerships that can and will sale you a car for the right amount of money allowing you to purchase the car without getting ripped off and still allow the dealership the opportunity to make the compensation they deserve for their efforts. The trick is to find that dealership. Best of luck to you.

Limitations of Wind Energy

Limitations of Wind energy:

No electricity when there is any wind

The limitation of wind power is that no electricity is produced when the wind is not blowing. Thus, it cannot be used as a dependable source of base load power. Utilities and merchant generators will not invest huge sums of money into a technology that does not work when the wind is not blowing. Americans want the lights on when they flip the switch, no questions asked. Wind power will probably increase its market share when we develop a 'smart grid' that can handle multiple distributed generation input sources of electrical power.

Wind Turbines Killing Migrating Birds

It has been estimated that about 45,000 birds (golden eagles, kestrels and red-tailed hawks) have been killed over the past twenty years by the whirling blades of wind turbines. The rows of spinning blades at Altamont Pass, east of San Francisco, turn wind into electricity, but they are killing many predatory birds whose annual migration route includes the pass. Past attempts to reduce bird kills have included painting the tips of turbine blades to try to make them more visible to birds and installing screens around generators. These measures have failed to substantially lower the number of bird deaths.

Bat kills are the latest big problem for wind farmers. Researcher's estimate that 1,500 to 4,000 bats were killed at the Mountaineer Wind Energy Center in Western Maryland in 2004. This is raising concerns about an expansion of wind turbine use at Backbon Mountain in Maryland, where Clipper Wind power, Inc.of California is planning to build a project 20 miles away from the Mountaineer site.

Solutions of limitations:

We should build wind turbines where there is too much of wind like near sea so there will be 24 hours electricity and the problem of electricity will be solved and there are less birds near sea so the problem of killing birds will also be solved.

Selecting a Cell Phone

More Than Just a Phone

Selecting a cell phone is no longer just about mobile communication – it is now a lifestyle choice. If you don’t select the phone that fits your personality, you won’t be happy with it. New cell phones are beginning to have little in common with earlier cell phones. The new models feature color screens, digital cameras, high-speed internet connections, multimedia games, and music playback. In case you were wondering, you can also use them to make phone calls. It’s only a matter of time before everyone has these features on their cell phones.

Text messaging or “texting" is now available standard on most cell phones. It is similar to instant messaging except that messages are sent and received by cell phones instead of computers. Multimedia messaging allows you to send audio, video, and pictures as an attachment to a text message. Multimedia messaging was once seen as entertainment, but is rapidly becoming valuable to the business world. Real estate agents take photos of houses with their cell phones and employment agencies may use camera phones to photograph job applicants – all away from their office.

Dial In On the Options

Cellular providers in the United States use either GSM or CDMA technology. When you buy a cell phone, it is tied to either GSM or CDMA cellular network, but can't be converted from one to the other. If you ever switch cellular providers, you may also need to switch phones. Most cellular providers now have high-speed data networks. These data networks work with high-end cell phones and special network cards you can purchase for laptops. Data networks usually transmit data slightly faster than a dialup internet connection. These networks are still being developed and are yet to be available everywhere. Look for higher speed networks to be much more common by 2006.

If you want to purchase a camera phone, consider what quality of photos you need to take. Most camera phones have less than a one megapixel resolution, which produces low-quality images. If you need to take clear photos, look into a camera phone with 3 or more megapixels.

Voice Dialing and Bluetooth are becoming standard in many phones to make it easier and safer for people to use their phones while driving. Voice Dialing allows you to speak a person’s name into your phone, which will automatically find the person in your address book and dial the number for you. Bluetooth lets you connect a headset to your phone without wires. Some luxury cars are beginning to offer Bluetooth connectivity so that you can take calls in your car through the built-in speaker system.

Some newer cell phones are being designed with an emphasis on entertainment. They can be used to play music MP3 files, stored video and even movies, and video games. In general, the newer phones are all getting smarter and more specialized.

After you’re done choosing the features that you want, don’t neglect the practical aspects. Look at how often you will need to change the battery, whether the screen and keypad are too big and too small. Also, caveat emptor: most cellular providers lock you into a one or two year contract when you purchase a phone from them. If you cancel your service, they will charge you an early termination fee.

Trading Forex For A Living

Every trader's goal in life is to trade for a living. Although it is extremely difficult it is attainable.

The first step is to determine how much money you need to pay your everyday bills. When the accumulated monthly profit amount is at least twice as much as the amount you need to live, you may consider taking out 50% of those profits. Once you reach that point you will make a living and your trading account will increase each month and at the same time the amount you deduct from your account will also increase every month from that point on.

To accomplish that goal you need start up capital. Please do not expect to open an account with $3,000 and expect to earn a livable wage from that investment. If you are looking at making around $2000-2500 a month, which is 150 to 250 pip if you are trading whole lots, then you would expect drawdowns of not less than 300 pips. Your initial account won't last very long. You should plan on investing at least $25,000.00 if your goal is to earn around $2,500/month.

There is a very good quote attributed to Dr Alexander Elder who wrote an excellent book called Trading for a Living. That quote is as follows:

Brokerage records indicate that 95 out of 100 people trading today will probably be gone from the markets a year from now. They will hit rock bottom, crumble and leave. They will try to forget trading as they would a bad dream.

In order not to be one of the 95% mentioned above you need to find a system. A good system is the key of financial investing success. If you have your own system or you want to copy some elses system, you need to look at two things first:
1. Maximum Drawdown,
2. Feasibility and hours of trading.

There are a few types of traders:

Casino Traders

Casino Traders are traders making decisions based on instinct alone. Such traders always have two results to expect the price is going to go down, or the price is going to go up. Casino Traders will do their best to follow the trend, but without understanding how a trend works, they will only have past price history to

Bookworm Traders

The Bookworm Trader, has gained Forex knowledge from researching free resources available across the web, participating on Forex forums, reading free e-books, and other materials. It may be a very long time before they are ready to trade confidently.

Educated Traders

As we know, 95% of all traders end up losing, and only 5% survive as successful traders. Before investing money in a live account, they invest in themselves by paying tuition for professional Forex education.

The dream can become reality, it is not easy but it is doable.

7 Simple Steps To Saving Money On Groceries

Regardless of how many people you have to buy groceries for each month, the grocery bill is always a consistently huge household expense. If you plan well before going to the store and apply the following seven suggestions, you will be able to successfully spend less on groceries on a regular basis.

* First and foremost, make a grocery budget and stick to it. Consider the amount of money that you have been spending over the last few months at the grocery store and then calculate an average that you can use for your budget. As you get better at finding bargains, you will eventually be able to lower this amount and save even more.

* Discuss and establish a menu that lasts two weeks with the entire family. This will help you to use the same menu items more than once will maintaining a variety in meals. At the same time you will be wasting less time and still keeping everyone in the family satisfied.

* Use the menu (and the recipes for the different items) to develop your grocery list. Be sure to check your pantry, fridge and freezer first so you don't buy too much of an item. It can be helpful to put the grocery list in the order that you will find the items in the store (bakery, deli, dairy, freezer, and meat). Jot down your estimate for the cost and total it up. If you don't come in under budget, you may have to do some adjusting or cutting.

* Go through the paper or search the internet for any coupons that might be available for the items you need. You can ask your friends and family to save coupons for you as well. Match your coupons to the list (and note on the list that you have a coupon and what it is for two for one, off of three, or whatever the discount may be).

* Make a coupon club with friends and family. Have everyone involved bring coupons that they are not going to use and share. You can also form a club on the Internet.

* Search the papers and flyers for any special discounts that are coming up at the grocery stores. The smaller your community, the more limited you may be, but there are still some great buys out there (especially when you can combine them with coupons).

* When it saves you money and is possible, buy in bulk. Make sure to compare prices before buying, since bulk purchases do not always work out to be cheaper. Non-perishable items are the best choices, like paper products and cleaning supplies that you can use any time. If you opt to buy meat in bulk quantities, make sure you repackage it individually before you store them.

These seven tips will help you reduce the money you spend on groceries, letting you put it to good use in some other way.

Learning Effective Money Management

Increasing wealth and net worth is about more then just making good investments or even "getting lucky". The key to lasting wealth comes from good money management. Do you realize just how many people are millionaires? The numbers may surprise you. The person sitting next to you could very well be a millionaire. Your neighbor that lives across the street could also be a millionaire.

The most common misconception that most people have about the wealthy is that they always drive around in fast and fancy cars, take lavish vacations, and live on large estates. While that may be true of some people, but the majority of the wealthy live normal lives and go to normal jobs. The reason? They realize that uncontrolled spending can lead to uncontrollable credit and unfortunately as has been the trend, bankruptcy. There are several points that one could use to compare their wealth plan with their actions to see if they are truly heading in the right financial direction.

Do You Save? Sure everyone tries to save a little here and there, but to truly become a financial success a regular savings plan that is part of a well-balance budget. Saving money isn't always easy. The advice of a financial advisor or even the use of money management software can help you plot a financial route. Planning for emergencies, educations and even mundane expenses should be part of a budget.

Certainly there are people who have stumbled upon their fortunes either by inheriting it hitting it big in the stock markets. That is a very rare occurrence and those who frivolously invest in every scheme imaginable to strike it rich usually just end up the complete opposite. Again proper money management is key.

Planning to save means that you determine now where you want to be and then follow in a patter of saving and investing that makes it possible to meet that goal. Of course a balanced portfolio utilizes more then just a savings plan. Investing in mutual funds and stocks should really carry and equal share of the load. Good money management also means controlled spending. A perfect example is that of an NFL player.

It is hard to believe that people who make enough in a couple of years for most of us to retire on would have any kind of money problems, but year after year players get themselves into financial binds and end up in the red. The reason is poor spending habits. Spending money on anything from a sports car and matching house for mom to an expensive dog house, they forget how important it is to save thinking they will always have enough. That is almost never the case. For these stars they should be saving more then they are spending in a year to be prepared for premature retirement or other emergencies. Only by controlling spending habits and developing solid money management skills can a person, star or not, ensure that they will be financially secure for the future.

Walk Your Way To Health

Walk, run, swim, cycle, hike, weight-train, which is the best for your health?

Which one will give you the best, most immediate results in terms of aerobic fitness, muscular fitness and flexibility?

We are all searching for answers. We all hope to find the quickest way to improve or maybe regain our health.

But what about walking? Most of us think of walking as something you do maybe to get yourself started again on the road to fitness, but as our primary method of fitness?

Why not?

Here’s some thoughts to consider;

A brisk walk for 30-60 minutes can produce a deficit of as much as 300 to 400 calories depending on your current level of fitness.

Making that same walk just 3 or 4 times a week over the course of a year could result in a weight loss of 16 pounds. That assumes you don’t change your current diet.

Combine that walking with a reasonable diet and the numbers multiply quickly.

Not bad for one of the most underrated exercises of all.

On top of that, research shows that 10 minutes 3 times a day offers the same benefit as 30 minutes 1 time a day. Sorry, no more excuses for not having enough time!

But let’s consider some of the other benefits:

Walking impacts the three major areas of health and fitness; aerobic fitness, muscular strength and flexibility. Not many other activities hit all three at such a consistent level as walking.

When done with proper form walking represents a much lower risk of joint injury than many other forms of exercise.

It can be done almost anywhere. Want to swim? You need a pool or a lake or ocean.

Want to cycle? First you need the equipment and then you need a reasonably safe place to ride.

Still not convinced?

Let’s get personal. In November and December of 2003, while on an extended visit to Michigan, I decided to walk each day. It gave me the opportunity to get out and see the town and meet the people.

When I arrived in Michigan I weighed in at 235 pounds and had a 40 inch waist. I jumped right in the first morning with a good brisk walk. I probably walked 4 miles that first day, but that was enough.

Now mind you I walked every single day for the 60 days I was there, but when I arrived home in California I was a slim 190 pounds with a 31 inch waist.

Yes, that’s 60 days! I walked a lot more than 30 minutes, in fact usually it was more like 2 to 3 hours, but still we’re talking about 60 days not 365 days to lose that kind of weight.

And I felt fantastic to boot!

I’m not saying that everyone will get the same results that I did, but if you got even a quarter of the results in 60 days, you’d be pretty happy wouldn’t you?

Walking is definitely not a myth and I’m not sure it’s a miracle either, but it sure does rank right up there as one of the best all around exercises of all time!

Always consult a physician before beginning any exercise program.

If you would like to learn more about walking and it’s benefits, just drop us a line we’ll hook you up with some other great resources.

Top 7 Tips To Strengthen Your Back Support Muscles

Not surprisingly, people with strong trunk muscles and well conditioned leg and hip muscles are less likely to develop back pain and injuries than people with weak or poorly conditioned muscles. Fortunately, your muscles will become stronger if you follow a regular exercise program that challenges your muscles to do slightly more than usual. If you are not already doing strengthening exercises, start with the exercises described here that you can consider to adopt, which focus on the spinal support muscles of the abdomen and back.

1. Deadbug

Lie fat on your back, bend your knees, and keep your feet flat on the floor. Find the neutral position by flattening your lower back against the floor, then arching it up toward the ceiling and finding the point halfway between. Place your fingers at your sides on the bony area of your pelvis just below your waist. Now tighten your stomach muscles as if you were about to get punched. Lift one foot a couple of inches off the ground while keeping your stomach tight and keeping your back in the neutral position. Then put your foot down and lift the other foot. Keep your hands on your pelvis to make sure that you are tilting your pelvis as you lift your feet. Alternate the feet for 20 repetitions while keeping your pelvis stable. As this gets easier, you can increase the difficulty by lifting your arms as well as legs off the floor.

2. Bridging

Lie flat on your back, bend your knees, and keep your feet flat on the floor. Find the neutral position as illustrated above. After which, lift your hips off the ground, maintaining a neutral position in the lower back and keeping the spinal straight and your weight on your upper back. Life your hips up until you begin to find it difficult to maintain the neutral position. Keep your arms at your side, palms down on the floor to provide stability so your hips do not tilt side to side. Lower to the floor and lift up 20 times. To increase the difficulty of this exercise, do alternate arm and leg lifts while bridging. You can eventually add cuff weights to your ankles.

3. Partial Sit-ups

Lie flat on your back, bend your knees, and keep your feet flat on the floor. Find the neutral position by following the above technique. You can roll up a towel and put it under the small of your back to help you maintain the neutral position. Stretch out your arms and place the palms of your hands on the top of your thighs. Curl up your torso until your fingers touch the top of your knees. Hold this position for a moment, then curl back down. Keep the lower back on the floor the entire time the upper back moves. Now follow the same procedure by stretching both arms straight toward the left knee, then both arms toward the right knee. Repeat 10 times in each direction.

4. Alternate Arm And Leg Lifts

Lie on your stomach and find the neutral position. You can put a folded towel under your stomach to help maintain your alignment. Tighten your abdominal muscles and lift a straight left arm and right leg a few inches off the floor. Make sure that your back does not arch. Raise your arms and legs only as high as you are able to while maintaining the neutral position. Repeat with the opposite arm and leg. Do 20 repetitions.

5. Quadruped Arm And Leg Lifts

Get on your hands and knees. Arch your back up toward the ceiling. Let it sag down so that it dips toward the floor, and then come back up halfway. This is your neutral position. Tighten your abdominal muscles. Raise your straight left arm and right leg while maintaining your spine in the neutral position. Hold this position for a moment and then put your arm and leg down. Repeat with the opposite arm and leg. Do 10 to 20 repetitions.

6. Functional Squats

Stand upright and place your feet shoulder width apart. Find your neutral position and squat down while maintaining it. Your buttocks will move backward, your chest will move forward, and your center of gravity will drop straight down. Your weight should be balanced in the middle of your feet, not on the balls or heels. To avoid knee pain, do not bend your knees more than 90 degrees. Do 10 to 20 repetitions.

7. Leg Lowering

Lie on your back and bend your knees while keeping your feet flat on the floor. Use your abdominal muscles to keep your back in the neutral position, and slowly extend one leg at a time. Then slowly lower that led to the floor while keeping your abdominal muscles tight. Keep the other leg bent, and make sure that your back does not arch. Do 10 to 20 repetitions.

Coffee and Health

Coffee and health used to be a controversed theme in the seventies. Nowadays, moderate coffee consumption is rather exonerated from its supposed negative long term effects upon health.

My mother used to be one of those persons who teaches her offspring, in its early ages, that coffee is not bad. It is bad bad bad! In consequence, I managed to keep away from coffee. At least untill the difficult age of 10, when, as I remember, I was permitted to join mother and neighbour-friends at the coffee-tattle table.

That was the moment I started to exercise my taste buds on coffee. In those days, I remember developping a partiality for coffee with milk. Or should I say milk with coffee... However, I know now that the coffee I was drinking back then was indeed, not so good. Preground, over boiled, sometimes brewed over the grounds from the other day, could you think of worst? No wonder I wanted to hyde those hideous characteristics with tones of milk.

In the meantime, I probably took a good sip of coffee on the road and woke-up to a much more pleasant reality. Coffee is not bad. It is good good good. But why are there so many voices whispering that coffee and health don't go well together?

Caffeine

Call it food or beverage, coffee is free of any nutritional value, and, as indecent as it may sound, we consume it exclusively for pleasure.

Yes, the caffeine content in coffee is partialy responsible for that pleasure. Caffeine acts as a mild stimulent over the central nervous system, that results in better memory, better judgements and ideea-associations, better moovement-coordination.

A single serve espresso contains somewhere among 80 and 120 milligrams of caffeine. A normal cup of coffee (even drip coffee) contains about 100 - 150 milligrams of caffeine. This is what commonsense calls moderate consumption at one sit. Within several hours (varying from one person to another) caffeine is eliminated from the body. Refering to average coffee drinker again, s/he can have three or four sips (servings) of coffee every day aside from any health risk.

The thing about coffee is quite the same as with other foods and beverages. The effects vary with the dosing: moderate can be medicine, too much can be poison. The average coffee drinker can experience nocive effects after ingesting 550 milligrams (women) and 700 milligrams (men) at one sit. These effects reffer to headaches, nausea, petulance. The caffeine overdose is beeing speculated around 10 grams. I say, it would be impossible to reach it exclusively by drinking coffee, as you should ingest 100 cups at one sit. However, if you succeed, it may be the last thing you'll ever do.

Coffee is not recommended when certain health problems are allready present. Reasons could stand on solid proof or only on purpose to avoid unprooved but also unwanted risk.

Acidy

Acidy describes the sour-component of the coffee taste. Acidy (or acidity) is emphasised in Arabica coffee and in light roasts. It may have a negative efect over the digestive functions. People that are less tolerant with acidity but still want to drink coffee, may choose a decaffeinated coffee or a natural low-acidity coffee from Brazil, India or Caribbee.

Other negative effects that have been nominated (eg. over pregnant women) have not resulted in significant proof when tested. The medical society nowadays is rather exonerating coffee from long term negative effects upon human health.

The beneficial effects of coffee

Coffee has prooven beneficial effects over persons suffering from astma. 2 to 4 small cups of coffee through-out the day will help them reduce the recurency of astma-attacks and moderate their intensity.

Coffee contains natural antioxidants called 'flavonoids' that are wide known as disease protectors.

The beneficial effects of moderate caffeine consumption are wide recognised: caffeine works on alertness, mood, sensorial activity and memory. Of course, you may choose to take your daily caffeine intake from other foods and beverages: chocolate, carbonated drinks based on coca-nuts extract, tea.

Beside these effects, somewhat prooven by the medical society, I would mention one more: the pure pleasure of sipping a good cup of coffee. If every person on this planet would do this every day, I believe there would be less wars, suicides, health problems, people suffering from depression etc. etc. But I could be wrong.

Beware of Fake Diplomas

With the rise of online distance education programs, students everywhere are turning to this convenient method to receive a college education. While there's no denying that online education offers prospective students a flexible alternative to traditional schools, there are certain scams you need to be aware of to avoid receiving a fake diploma. Fake degrees are more common than many people might think, and anyone can be fooled into believing they are receiving a quality education when in reality, they are not. While distance education is a viable way to obtain your education goals, be aware of the following scams or you very well might end up with a fake diploma.

When searching for online master degrees programs, it's very important to assure that the school is accredited. It's very easy for a college to say they are fully accredited, but unless they are accredited through proper means you could end up with fake degrees that will mean nothing to prospective employers. Nowadays, some schools that are only out to take your money will create their own illegitimate accreditation boards to give the illusion that their school is the real deal. To stay safe, and to be sure you don't end up with a fake diploma, check with the proper accreditation boards for any online program you are considering.

One common sense sign people tend to miss is the lack of contact information a school provides. A legitimate school will provide complete contact information for students to get in touch with their teachers and faculty. While e-mail is definitely a convenient way to contact your school, it shouldn't be the only way. Check to make sure the school you wish to attend provides an address and telephone number where you can reach them. Schools that offer fake degrees oftentimes omit this pertinent information, which should be your first warning sign.

It's also important to remember that any claim that sounds too good to be true probably is. For example, if an online degree program claims you will be able to finish your education extremely fast or makes outrageous claims that sound unbelievable, listen to your intuition! It's probably an advertising gimmick designed to take your money and leave you hanging with a fake diploma. Fake degrees will not be taken seriously with any employer or school, and if you fall prey to one of these scams you are the one left holding the bag.

While an online masters degree offers people flexible ways to reach their educational goals, it's important to keep a watchful eye out for anything that looks the least bit suspicious. In obtaining a college education, you want your degree to mean something and a fake diploma from a school that isn't legitimate will not get you where you want to be in life. When researching distance education programs, always check to make sure the school is legitimate before you pay any money to study with them. If you're not careful, you may end up with a fake diploma after all of your money and time has been spent.

Find Your College Major

Getting into college is one thing; finding the right major is quite another and, in some ways, just as important. Modern college students seem to change their career choices (the major) several times before they finally pick one and hang with it long enough to graduate.

So, there is no reason to be concerned or alarmed if you can't find the "perfect major" in your first semester. You have time, but too much time can be expensive and wasteful. The sooner you get on the right track, the sooner you will graduate and embark on your career.

Let's look at some of the considerations -- beyond your interests, past successes and apparent talents -- which should be your focus as you evaluate your options. There is a wide variety of options from basic computer training, to a career as a paralegal, a degree in business administration or massage therapy training. The successful search for a major will require research and serious self-evaluation, but the major that fits your lifestyle and your goals is out there, waiting for you.

First, let's consider what interests you the most. Is it money? Then some field that pays well will probably get your attention. Many students consider a pharmacy degree or a degree in psychology to be a better career path for a money consideration. But you may find that money is no substitute for other things in life: leisure time, challenge, travel, or family. The quest for money may actually frustrate your search for the things that please you most, or the things that give your life a fulfilling meaning. You have to pretty honest with yourself.

Second, you should be practical in your choice of major. Ask yourself, "Why did I decide to go to college in the first place?" Then, plan your course of study accordingly. If you are interested in acquiring knowledge and experience, then you may follow your primary interests into any field that attracts you. A number of students are interested in helping people so they become a dental hygienist, choose a career in criminal justice or a physical therapy degree. A college degree, no matter what the subject, can open many doors with many different labels.

If you enjoy reading and writing, getting a degree in English might be a logical choice for you. You may want to be a educator and elect to become a teacher . English majors, however, may find the job market very tight and somewhat unappealing -- not as lucrative as a degree in business or computer science.

Third, if you are unsure about your interests or your true aptitudes, then you're in very good company. Students are often discouraged from choosing a career plan early in life because the "possibilities are endless." While that's true, it is also true that time and money is not inexhaustible. So, your college experience can be a laboratory in which you experience many different subjects and practices. Chances are that the people who interest you most are involved in the fields that will interest you most, too. Keep your eyes open and your choices flexible, but not postpone your decision forever.

Finally, no matter what your choice, remember that you can always change your mind. Modern research tells us that most professionals will change the companies for whom they work several times. In fact, today's college graduate may expect to change careers more than once, as technology, society and economies evolve.

Don't worry about the competitive edge: today's graduates share the same disadvantage when it comes to employability; they need experience. You can use your college days to get valuable experience in part-time work, internships, cooperative education, and study abroad opportunities. Each of these activities could be the key to finding the career path that interest and excites you the most.

You'll get second chances, of course. If you attend graduate school, for instance, your career may take a completely different direction. For the moment, your objective should be to learn as much as possible about your world and yourself. Although, it is never too early to consider best graduate schools that are available in your chosen field of study. Once you graduate, the world will get more complex, and the price tag for study and learning will go up.

Now is the best time to try as much as you can without wandering aimlessly toward the unknown future. The odds are that your trip will not end exactly as you imagine, but traveling with confidence and an open mind will help you find pleasant traveling companions and take to you interesting places.
